Being a tropical country, India has huge potential for solar power generation. As per government estimates, India receives 5,000tn kWh per year, with most parts of the country receiving 4-7 kWh per square metre per day.
The launch of Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) has created a lot of interest in the India solar sector. To create demand and attract investment in the sector, the government is providing various incentives. India’s solar PV market has grown by 75% in 2010 and 50% in 2011. India has huge potential for solar PV and with the right policy support by the Indian Government; India can become a major player in the solar market globally.
